If only the season started out how it ended for Luch Monte and the Monte Motorsports #17 team, he would have had a much happier season.

It isn’t any secret that Monte started the 2009/10 season with so much promise. He had finished off the previous summer campaign well, running at the front of the field and gaining podiums and wins along the way. As this summer began Monte had high expectations of the results that should have come his way, but they didn’t materialize and the longer the season went the more he became frustrated.

It left Monte scratching his head but never once did he doubt his ability and true to his nature, he kept coming back with his team to try and work out exactly what the problem was. It was only about a month ago that it all came together.

“It hasn’t been a great season, but the last three or four shows we changed things around and we started to go a lot faster” he said in the pits after the running of the Gold Cup last weekend at the Perth Motorplex.

Monte showed just how well the G&S Seedlings/Miracle Recreation equipment J&J can be in the final. The tacky Kwinana surface caught out Monte and a number of other front runners in their opening heats. After some changes between heats it was expected that he could improve on his fourth place finish from the opening heat only for bad luck to strike.

After contact with another competitor and with no steering, Monte came down the track and collided with team mate Ryan Farrell, with Farrell flipping and doing extensive damage to the #95 car plus enough to Monte for him to drop the heat as well.

It was a case of all hands on deck as both team cars required repairs for the A-Main. It may have been a struggle but it was worth the effort to see both of the Monte Motorsport J&J’s to front up for a start in the finale.

Starting out of fourteenth in the final was always going to be a tough ask for a good result, but Monte knuckled down and used the restarts to his advantage. The track was fast and plenty of people showed plenty of pace with Monte using every opportunity he could find to pass eight cars and finish in a respectable sixth.

“I got caught out by the cautions at the end. I got to fourth and the yellows came on so I had to go back but I can’t complain. The boys have changed the whole car around and if I had of had the car like that at the start of the year I would have been laughing.” He said after the final.

Monte will have few weeks off now until two weeks prior to the Australian Title when the Monte Motorsport Team will run a shakedown meeting in Darwin. Who knows with the new found confidence could we see Monte crowned Oz#1?
